The scope

Purged TIG on every stainless joint.

A stainless weld that was not back-purged has a rough, oxidized root inside the pipe. Product hangs up on it, corrosion starts there, and it fails inspection. Every stainless joint here is TIG-welded with argon inside the pipe, so the root is smooth and fully fused.

Typical work includes sanitary tube for food, beverage, and dairy; process and utility piping for water treatment and pool or spa equipment; stainless drain and vent lines in commercial kitchens; and repairs or new branches on existing stainless systems. Sizes run from ½-inch tube through the common process sizes, schedule 5S to 40, in 304 and 316. Butt welds, socket welds, flanges, and tri-clamp ferrules.

Spools and manifolds are built in the shop in St. George and installed on site. Tie-ins, repairs, and runs that cannot be pre-built are welded in place with the mobile rig. In both cases the fit-up is checked, the purge is verified, and the weld is inspected before the system goes back into service.

Common questions

Stainless pipe questions.

  • Q.01

    Do you back-purge stainless welds?

Yes, every one. Argon inside the pipe while the root goes in is what keeps the interior of the weld smooth and bright. It is required on sanitary work and it is the right way to do process pipe too.

  • Q.02

What sizes and grades do you work in?

Tube and pipe from ½ inch through the common process sizes, schedule 5S to 40, in 304 and 316. Use 316 near chlorine, salt, or aggressive chemistry. Tri-clamp, butt-weld, socket-weld, and flanged fittings.

  • Q.03

Can you weld it in place?

Yes. Tie-ins, repairs, and runs that cannot be pre-built are welded on site. Anything that can be built as a spool is built in the shop, where fit-up and purge are easier to control, then installed.

  • Q.04

Do you do sanitary or food-grade work?

Yes. Food, beverage, dairy, and brewery tube with sanitary ferrules and fittings, welded and finished so the system passes inspection and cleans in place. Passivation is coordinated with your chemical vendor or a local partner.

  • Q.05

What does the finished weld look like?

Ground and blended where the spec calls for it, left as a clean TIG bead where it does not. Interior beads are smooth and fully fused. If you want to see a sample coupon before the job, ask.
